On the occasion of Kanakadasa’s birth anniversary, Arts committee with the association of Equal Opportunity cell had conducted the Speech competition. The objective of this activity is to understand the ideologies of Kanakadasa and also how his ideologies are more relevant to the present situation. The students actively participated and shared the knowledge about Kanakadasa’s work and mainly focused upon the caste based, class based discrimination was portrayed by Kanakadasa. The competition was held on 1st of December 2023. Total 9 students from BA, B.Com and BCA have participated.
18 October 2023
Intelligentsia- Arts committee conducted the Essay writing competition for BA all semester students. The essay writing was about Celebration of Festival. Then and Now. This activity enhanced the writing skills of students, and by participating the students learnt the significant of festivals. What are the changing factors and how Millennials and Gen z are celebrating the India’s Festival? The Essay writing was conducted on 18th October 2023. As a Judge of the competition Ms. Sushmitha. B.C, Assistant Professor, Sociology also shared the thoughts of changing scenario in festival celebration. 12 students from the BA department participated in this activity.

The Department of Arts organized a one-day virtual national level students’ conference on the theme Rethinking LGBTQIA+: Youth Perspectives on 26 August 2023. A total of 22 papers were presented by UG and PG students from across India. Dr. Sikha Das, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Kristu Jayanti College Autonomous, was invited as the Chairperson and keynote speaker. She chose the best papers who were given token cash prizes.

A guest lecture for the students of 4th semester Psychology was organized based on their syllabus topics on the theme Developmental Psychology on 12 August 2023. The resource person was Ms. Sabina Juliet, a life skills preceptor. A total of 14 students participated in the guest lecture, including students from beyond the targeted audience.

A one day industrial visit on ABALASHRAMA MEDIA TRAINING CENTRE, Basavanagudi, Bangalore was organized by the Department of Arts of the college on 9 August 2023. The main agenda of industrial visit was journalism students should learn about Television broadcasting system and news anchoring.

A workshop on Newspaper Designing was organized for the BA, B.Com and BBA students of Journalism on 20 July 2023. The resource person invited for the programme was Mr. MANIKANTA project chief of ABALASHARAMA MEDIA TRAINING CENTER, Bangalore. Around 30 students actively participated in the programme with many useful questions and comments.
6 March 2023
The students of the department went on field visit related to psychology to the Missionaries of Charity – Mother Teresa’s Home for the Sick and Dying Destitute on 6 March 2023. The fourteen students of Psychology from 1st and 2nd years participated in the visit. The students learnt about mental disorders that the inmates are suffering from. They learnt about the psychiatric treatment that the inmates are receiving. They also learnt about Animal Assisted Therapy that is being provided to the inmates.

The online Faculty Development Programme was arranged by the Department of Arts in association with Anweshana – Research and Development Cell as an IQAC initiative of the college from 18 January 2023 to 20 January 2023. Resource persons were Ms. Moutan Roy from Haldia Government College in West Bengal, Dr. Vahini Aravind of Bangalore University and Dr. Seema Dutta from Adamas University of West Bengal. The event drew 80 participants from all over India.

An online guest lecture was organized on 2 December 2022 for the BA students to generate awareness and social sensitivity among students regarding the issue of ecological sustainability and gender rights. The resource person of the event was Ms. Madhurima Dasgupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Adamas University, Kolkata. Sixteen students from the BA department participated in the lecture.

A guest lecture was organized for the Journalism students of BA department on the theme Scope of Journalism to give them an idea about the opportunities and scopes after pursuing a degree in Journalism. It was conducted on 10 September 2022. The resource person was Mr. Sachin K.M., Senior Language Expert for Google and Amazon Magnun Sancus.

Ms. Moutan Roy from Haldia Government College, West Bengal, Dr. Vahini Aravind of Bangalore University and Dr. Seema Dutta from Adamas University, West Bengal conducted the FDP.

The committee conducted an educational and entertaining event named Air Crash where each participant had to role play based on the given roles such as politician, journalist, doctor, etc. to persuade the pilot of a crashing aeroplane why they should be saved. It helped students to develop speaking and debating skills and gain confidence in public speaking.

A Social Science exhibition was held in which the departmental students made charts and models to represent Rural Urban divide in India. It gave the students better knowledge about the rural-urban gap in Indian society.
9 December 2022
The students of the Arts Department had a Group Discussion competition on the theme of Cyber Crimes and Cyber Security. Students of other departments participated as audience and helped in having a lively group discussion with the involvement of aware young audience members. The event helped the students to gain knowledge about this important issue.
